Annie Oakes has had 35 jobs, both temporary and supposed-to-be-permanent, as well as roles as mother, daughter, and overly trusting friend. In every capacity she has experienced the absurd, the ridiculous, and the just plain mean. This collection of personal essays, like a set of before-and-after photos, details her journey from timid neophyte to veteran word warrior.

With rhetorical skill and restorying therapy, she enlists readers into revisiting painfully unforgettable events so that justifiable anger can be processed and released instead of buried like artifacts. Hilarious examples of the meanies we all recognize, heartfelt efforts to forgive them, and a shocking twist are woven together with the practical and the mystical. Dig out your own empty journals and join her on this jaunt through memories we’d rather forget.
